about Tregothnan is the home of the Earls of Falmouth whose forbears included Edward Boscawen, 1st Earl of Falmouth (10 May 1787 – 29 December 1841), known as the Viscount Falmouth between 1808 and 1821, was a British peer and politician. Not to be confused with Boscawen, Edward (1711-61) British admiral and naval hero, popular for the taking of Porto Bello (1739) and the siege of Cartagena (1741). In the French and Indian War (1754-63), Boscawen intercepted a French squadron near Newfoundland, capturing two ships and 1, 500 men (1755). Made admiral in 1758, “Old Dreadnought” helped Gen. Jeffrey Amherst besiege and capture the French fortress of Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island (1758).

about Some 90.000 tons of soil have been "manufactured" from recycled china clay waste, composted green waste and other organic material, the secret formula is such a success that it is bound to be available soon at nearby garden centres. There has been tremendous cooperation from many gardens and other institutions around the world. For example, Wageningen University kindly donated their full collection of tropical trees to the Eden Project when they were reorganising their own collection. These were pretty large rainforest specimens, 10 year old Indonesian and Malaysian dipterocarps, 5m tall with trunks over 10cm in diameter. All hands to the deck, the horticulture team went out to the Netherlands and together with Unifarm, from the University, dug the trees up (no, they were not in pots) and transported them back to Cornwall within 24 hours!

about Carne and Pendower beaches join at low tide to give a mile long stretch of golden sand, ideal for children with Rock pools to catch shrimps and crabs and ample car parking in the National Trust car parks. Safe for swimming and windsurfing with ramps to launch small boats at either end of the beach. Walking of dogs off leads is permitted from October to April. Completely unspoiled and never crowded even in peak summer months.

about Looking towards Black Head from Carrick Luiz headland near Kennack Sands. We used to have a cottage nearby and can thoroughly recommend the walks on this part of the Lizard. The Spring flowers on this rugged and unspoilt stretch of Coast have to be seen to be believed.
